Focus on spinal muscular atrophy
What is SMA?
SMA is a rare, neuromuscular hereditary disease that affects muscle strength and muscle movement. There are around 1,600 people living with SMA in Germany.
What therapies are currently available?
So far, there are only a few treatment options:
One is a drug that is injected at regular intervals as a lumbar puncture into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord and the other is a so-called gene therapy.
Since 2021, the first oral form of therapy for spinal muscular atrophy has also been approved in Germany. This medication can be administered daily at home in liquid form into the mouth or via a feeding tube and is dosed individually for each patient depending on their height and weight.
We are happy to support you with your oral therapy:
From preparing the ready-to-use solution to delivering the medication directly to your home, so that you can concentrate fully on your treatment.
